Mom McCain joins fray, hits Mormons

Roberta McCain, 95, referring to the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics bribery scandal, said, "Mormons of Salt Lake City had caused that scandal", and pointed out that Mitt Romney was also a Mormon.

John McCain interjected, "The views of my mothers are not necessarily the views of mine."

Mr. McCain later attempted to defuse the issue by saying, "What she meant was the Olympics were screwed up by the people in Salt Lake when Romney came in and fixed the problems there. But I know my 95-year-old mother is certainly in favor of Mormons."

With that implausable re-spin on her statements, perhaps the Senator really meant that his mother was now throwing her support to the only Mormon in the race.

Who could blame her if she did?
