Meltdown known 6 weeks before news released

Evidence of the reactor #1's meltdown was presented to the International Atomic Energy Agency in late March. However, the public was informed for the first time on May 15.

According the the result of a simulation developed by Chris Allison, the reactor #1 meltdown occurred about 3.5 hours after a cooling system failure caused by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami on March 11th.

The Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) has been criticized for not doing their own similar analysis as well as for withholding the public release of the meltdown information for over six weeks.
